BeloteCard

Four plays. Four ideas to keep.

Choose a legal card and discover the reason. These practice situations run here without an account. Complete matches belong to the app.

Follow before anything else

The ten of hearts was led; spades are trumps. Your hand has one heart. Which card is legal?

Explain this play

The seven of hearts is your only legal card. You must follow hearts; your trump jack cannot replace it.

A partner ahead, a trump still to beat

Hearts are trumps. A heart seven was led and your partner’s heart nine is winning. Which card must you play?

Explain this play

Play the jack of hearts. On a trump lead you must overtrump when possible, even if your partner is winning. The jack beats the nine.

Cut higher

The ace of hearts was led. An opponent has cut with the nine of spades; spades are trumps. You have no hearts. Which card is legal?

Explain this play

Only the jack of spades. With no hearts and an opponent winning, you must trump and beat that trump if you can. The seven of spades is too low.

Trust the player opposite

The seven of clubs was led and your partner’s ace of clubs is winning. Hearts are trumps; you have no clubs. What can you play?

Explain this play

All three cards are legal. When you cannot follow and your partner is winning, you may discard or trump. You do not have to spend the jack of hearts.

Small deck. Remarkable depth.

Choose your commitment

Four players sit in two opposite partnerships and play anticlockwise. Receive five cards, then pass or take the exposed suit. A second round offers the other three suits. Eight passes mean a fresh deal; a chosen contract brings everyone to eight cards.

Follow, trump, overtrump

Follow the suit led. On a trump lead, play a higher trump if you can, even when your partner is winning. Without the suit led, trump if an opponent is winning; overtrump if possible, otherwise play a lower trump. If your partner is winning, you may discard.

A king and queen worth announcing

The king and queen of trumps give their team 20 points for belote–rebelote. BeloteCard announces them as you play the cards. This classic profile has no sequences, four-of-a-kind declarations, no-trump or all-trump contracts.

Make the contract count

The taking team must score strictly more than the defenders, including belote. A tie fails the contract. Cards are worth 152 points and the last trick adds 10; all eight tricks make 252. Play to 1000, choose a short 501-point match or set a target from 1 to 10000.

The jack takes the crown.

Move the taking team’s raw points, add a belote and compare both teams. The calculation uses this app’s exact classic rules.

Taking team: 90 points · Defenders: 72 points

Contract made

If the contract fails, defenders receive all base points; each side keeps its own belote. A tie fails with no carry-over. Scores are never rounded. A capot is 252 base points, not a bonus added to 162.

Before you take the suit

Is this Belote or Coinche?

This is classic French Belote with two rounds of trump selection. It does not use Coinche bidding, no-trump, all-trump or sequence declarations.

Can I play a complete match here?

This page offers interactive practice and a score calculator. Complete games are in the BeloteCard app; these exercises do not connect to an online room.

Must I overtrump my partner?

Yes, when trumps were led and you can play a higher trump. On a non-trump lead, if you cannot follow and your partner is winning, you may discard.

What happens at 81–81?

The contract fails unless belote makes the taking team’s total strictly higher. There are no deferred points in this profile, and a declared belote stays with its team.

What makes a capot?

Winning all eight tricks. The last trick is then worth 100 instead of 10, so the base total is 252. Any belote is counted separately.
